A Wife’s Daily Prayer

It’s morning again. We awake with a list of things on our minds that we need to get done today. The kids need to be dressed for school, we need to stop by the grocery store to pick up a few things for dinner, and we forgot to call Suzie from the day before. Our boss expects something to be done today and we are only minutes away from being late. We’re either kissing our husband goodbye with a smile or rolling our eyes at him, still thinking about something he did the night before that upset us.

Judge Judy Rolling Her Eyes

It’s morning again. We say a quick thank you Lord for this day as we rush to get breakfast started or rush to our cars to beat the morning rush hour. We know we need to spend some time in prayer and in God’s word but the phone rings and we find ourselves in a conversation that lasts the entire car ride and now we’re at work in the thick of things. For some of us, we got breakfast done and we’re busy taking the kids to school, needing to run a few errands and get the house cleaned before it’s time to pick them back up from school again. It seems as though the days fly by and time is running faster than we can carry out our daily tasks.

Woman covering her face in frustration

We are swamped, overloaded, sometimes frazzled and seemingly balancing our day by the “skin of our teeth.” We are taking care of our responsibilities, as we rightfully should, but let us never forget that “it is in God that we live, move and have our being,” Acts 17:28. It is because of God that we are able to do anything that we do. He gives us the ability to handle our schedules, to take on multiple tasks, to raise our families and to have peace throughout it all. He is the source of our strength and He has the roadmap to our lives.

My husband and I have a thing together where anytime we purchase some new toy or furniture that requires assembly, he takes the task of the labor and I take the task of reading the manual to him and I can tell you that 1. sometimes we have fun and other times we get into it for a little bit but 2. it was ALWAYS easier to properly put something together when you have instructions from the manufacturer. It saves time, energy, and frustration from trying it one way only to realize later that there was a better way that was originally intended.

Isaiah 43:7 says “…everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.” God (the manufacturer) created us (his children) for his glory. He took the time to form us and He knows what’s best for our lives. We can spend days on end trying to figure out what’s the best way to balance our time and schedules and experiment on which decisions we should make and wonder how we should raise our kids and respond to our husband and go through life’s ups and downs just winging it… OR we can choose, on a daily basis, to open the manual (the Word of God) and ask God in prayer what it is He has planned for us for the day. Spend time thanking Him for who He is and what He’s done in your life. Ask him for protection over your family and over your mind. Tell Him to take charge of your day and ask Him for wisdom, guidance, and understanding. Ask Him to safeguard your husband’s heart and protect your marriage. Ask Him for ways out of situations even before they happen so you’re well equipped. Command your day and speak with your Heavenly Father who knows all things, sees all things and can fix all things. When you start to exercise your daily prayer, you will begin to see such a dramatic shift in your life, you’ll begin to wonder what took you so long in the first place.

Our schedules will always be busy. But always remember to speak with the creator on how to accomplish your to-do list, and you’ll find the extra time you never thought you had!
