Overcoming Worry

Overcoming Worry

“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done.” Philippians 4:6

There’s something about this 5 letter word that seems to plague all of us at one point or another. During our busy lives, it seems that the older we get, the more we find ourselves worrying. We worry about our kids, we worry about our finances. We worry about our positions at work or about our health. If it’s a situation we cannot control, in walks worry. But the Bible specifically tells us not to worry about anything. Not 1 thing. Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:34 “Do not worry about tomorrow. Tomorrow will have its own worries. The troubles we have in a day are enough for one day.” Luckily, we are also given a gameplan in cases where we find ourselves worrying: 1. Pray about it  2. Tell God what you need 3. Thank God for it 4. Let It Go!

1 Peter 5:7 says “Cast all your worries on Him, for He cares for you.” God loves us so much! He is a victorious King and our Abba Father and He is ready and willing to protect us, His children. Here we are told to cast all our worries onto Him. Find yourself in a quiet place where you can pour out your heart and soul to God. Seek after Him and His righteousness in prayer. Remind yourself of who He is and how good he’s been to you. Tell him the things that concern you and the things that are trying to cause you to worry. He is listening with open ears, a caring heart and capable hands to step into your situation. Thank Him for what He has already done and for what He will do, having faith that He can and will show up! Then, let it go & watch God respond!

Matthew 6:26-33 (NLV)

“Look at the birds in the sky. They do not plant seeds. They do not gather grain. They do not put grain into a building to keep. Yet your Father in heaven feeds them! Are you not more important than the birds? 27 Which of you can make himself a little taller by worrying? 28 Why should you worry about clothes? Think how the flowers grow. They do not work or make cloth. 29 But I tell you that Solomon in all his greatness was not dressed as well as one of these flowers. 30 God clothes the grass of the field. It lives today and is burned in the stove tomorrow. How much more will He give you clothes? You have so little faith! 31 Do not worry. Do not keep saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or, ‘What will we drink?’ or, ‘What will we wear?’ 32 The people who do not know God are looking for all these things. Your Father in heaven knows you need all these things. 33 First of all, look for the holy nation of God. Be right with Him. All these other things will be given to you also.”

Real life translation:

Don’t stress yourself out about anything because, worrying doesn’t fix anything and you can’t fix everything! Leave it in God’s hands, who is actually capable of working something out (plus, He wants to do it anyway). When it comes to worry, it’s best to stay in your lane and let THE professional (G O D)  handle it!
