Key Scripture: Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)
But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles…
Devotional
Waiting is one of the hardest parts of the Christian life.
Most of us don’t mind trusting God when things are moving. We can handle taking steps forward. We can handle seeing progress. What becomes difficult is when we’ve prayed, we’ve trusted, we’ve obeyed, and yet nothing seems to be changing.
The waiting season can feel uncomfortable because it often leaves us with questions. We wonder if God heard us. We wonder if we missed something. We wonder why the answer is taking so long.
If we’re not careful, waiting can slowly become frustrating.
I’ve noticed that when we’re waiting on something important, it’s easy to allow that thing to consume our thoughts. We start measuring our days by whether we see progress. We begin looking for signs, clues, or evidence that God is moving. Before long, our focus shifts from God’s presence to the outcome we’re hoping for.
But what if God wants to do something in us while we’re waiting?
Throughout Scripture, waiting was never wasted time. God often used waiting seasons to deepen faith, strengthen character, and prepare people for what was ahead. The waiting was not punishment. It was preparation.
That doesn’t make waiting easy.
But it does remind us that God is working even when we can’t see immediate results.
One of the reasons worship is so important during these seasons is because it keeps our hearts connected to God. Instead of allowing disappointment to take root, worship helps us remember His faithfulness. Instead of obsessing over what hasn’t happened yet, worship reminds us of who God has always been.
Perhaps the greatest challenge of waiting is learning to trust that God’s timing is just as good as His promises.
And perhaps the greatest gift of worship is that it teaches us to enjoy God’s presence while we wait for God’s answer.
