Key Scripture: 2 Corinthians 5:7 (NIV)
For we live by faith, not by sight.
Devotional
Have you ever noticed how differently you can view the exact same situation depending on the day?
One day you feel hopeful. You believe God is working. You’re confident that everything will be okay.
Then something happens. Maybe you’re tired. Maybe you’ve had a difficult week. Maybe an unexpected setback catches you off guard. Suddenly the same situation that felt manageable yesterday now feels overwhelming.
The situation hasn’t changed.
Your feelings have.
That’s one reason we have to be careful about allowing our emotions to lead us. Feelings are real, and God cares about them deeply, but they don’t always tell the full story. If we’re honest, there have been moments when our emotions convinced us that God was distant, even though He was right there with us.
David experienced this throughout the Psalms. There were days when he felt abandoned, discouraged, and afraid. Yet over and over again, he would remind himself of what he knew to be true about God.
I’ve always found that interesting because David didn’t ignore his feelings. He acknowledged them. He brought them before God honestly. But he refused to build his life on them.
Instead, he anchored himself in truth.
That’s what faith does.
Faith says, “This is how I feel, but this is what I know.”
I may feel uncertain, but God is faithful.
I may feel weak, but God is my strength.
I may feel forgotten, but God has not abandoned me.
One of the reasons worship is so valuable is because it helps reconnect our hearts to those truths. As we focus on God’s character, His promises, and His faithfulness, our emotions begin to fall back into their proper place.
The goal isn’t to deny our feelings.
The goal is to let God’s truth become louder than them.
