Key Scripture
Matthew 9:36
When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them.
Devotional
Jesus did not look at people as projects. He saw their pain, confusion, and need with compassion.
Biblical mission begins with love. When our desire to reach people is separated from compassion, our words can become cold or performative.
Compassion slows down enough to listen. It notices the person behind the behavior and asks what burden may be hidden beneath the surface.
You do not have to solve every problem you see. But you can ask God to soften your heart and show you how to respond with wisdom and kindness.
Before you ask God to enlarge your reach, ask Him to enlarge your compassion. Territory without love is not Kingdom territory.
Heart Check
Where have you become impatient with someone God is asking you to see compassionately?
Practice Today
- Listen fully to someone without rushing to advise.
- Pray for a person who has been difficult for you.
- Perform one quiet act of compassion without seeking recognition.
Prayer
Jesus, give me Your compassion for people. Help me see beyond appearances and respond with truth and love. Keep my service from becoming mechanical, and let Your heart be visible through mine. Amen.
