Making Room for God

Key Scripture: Luke 10:42 (KJV)

But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part…

Devotional

Making room for God is a decision before it becomes a habit. Life fills itself. Responsibilities expand. Notifications multiply. But intimacy with God requires space—intentional, protected, and prioritized.

Mary chose the ‘one thing’—presence over productivity. That choice wasn’t lazy; it was wise. When you make room for God, you receive what busyness can’t give: peace, direction, and spiritual strength.

As the year closes, consider what crowded your spirit. Not everything is sinful, but some things are stealing your attention and dulling your hunger for God.

Today, create room. Even small room. God multiplies moments surrendered to Him.

Scripture Insight

Luke 10:42 shows that presence is the ‘needful’ thing. Prioritizing God is choosing what cannot be taken away.

Heart Check

What is crowding out your time with God—and what boundary might you need to create?

Practice Today

  • Set aside 10 minutes today to be with God—no agenda, just presence.
  • Remove one distraction from your prayer/Bible time (phone, multitasking).
  • Choose one ‘less’ today so you can have more of God.
  • Plan one ‘God appointment’ for next week and protect it.

Reflection: What might change in your home and heart if you chose the ‘one thing’ consistently?

Prayer: Jesus, help me choose the one thing that is needful. Teach me to make room for You and to value Your presence above my productivity. Quiet my spirit, order my priorities, and draw me close. In Your name, Amen.
