Grace in the Unexpected

Key Scripture: Romans 8:28 (KJV)

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Devotional

Grace often shows up wearing clothes we didn’t recognize. The unexpected detours, the delays, the closed doors—God can use all of it. Romans 8:28 does not say all things are good; it says God works through all things for good.

Grace in the unexpected means God is not threatened by your surprise. He is not scrambling to recover lost time or plan B. He can weave purpose through interruptions and beauty through broken pieces.

Sometimes the unexpected is God’s protection. Sometimes it is God’s redirection. Sometimes it is God’s invitation to trust Him more deeply than before.

Today, ask God to show you where grace was hidden. There may be evidence of His kindness in places you once called ‘disappointment.’

Scripture Insight

Romans 8:28 anchors hope in God’s sovereignty—His ability to redeem and reorder what feels out of place.

Heart Check

What unexpected turn this year still feels unresolved—and what would it look like to trust God with it again?

Practice Today

  • Write down one disappointment and ask God to show you what He protected you from or taught you through it.
  • Speak Romans 8:28 aloud over that situation.
  • Thank God for His ability to redeem what you can’t fix.
  • Take one practical step of trust today (a call, a plan, an apology, a boundary).

Reflection: Where might God be working for your good even if you don’t yet see the outcome?

Prayer: Lord, I surrender the unexpected parts of my year to You. Redeem what felt painful, clarify what felt confusing, and restore hope where disappointment tried to settle in. I trust You to work all things for good. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
