Drawing Near to God

Key Scripture: James 4:8 (NIV)

“Come near to God and he will come near to you.”

Devotional

Drawing near to God is not about perfect words or polished prayers — it’s about honesty. God is near to those who call on Him in truth, not performance. He responds to sincerity, even when our hearts feel messy or unsure.

Sometimes we avoid closeness with God because we think we need to clean ourselves up first. But Scripture tells us the opposite. God meets us in truth — in our questions, disappointments, gratitude, and longing. Nearness is not earned; it is received.

When you draw near to God consistently, something shifts. You begin to recognize His presence in ordinary moments. Prayer becomes conversation, not obligation. Trust grows, not because life is perfect, but because God is present.

Today, God is inviting you to come as you are. Not later. Not when you feel more spiritual. Right now.

Scripture Insight

God’s promise of nearness is tied to our willingness to approach Him.

Heart Check

What has been keeping distance between you and God lately—busyness, discouragement, fear?

Practice Today

  • Choose a specific time to be with God today.
  • Share honestly how you’ve been feeling.
  • Read James 4:8 aloud.
  • Ask God to help you remain close.

Reflection: What would drawing near to God look like in your current season?

Prayer: Lord, I choose to draw near to You today. Remove anything that creates distance between us. Thank You for meeting me with grace and love as I seek You. Amen.
