Worship Through Loving Well

Key Scripture: 1 Corinthians 13:4-5 (NIV)

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

Devotional

One of the easiest things to do in any relationship is focus on what the other person could improve.

If we’re honest, most of us can quickly identify habits we’d like our spouse to change. We notice their weaknesses, frustrations, and shortcomings far more easily than we notice our own. That’s simply part of being human.

The challenge is that this mindset can slowly erode the way we love.

When our attention becomes fixed on faults, it’s difficult to remain grateful. When we continually focus on what is lacking, we often overlook what is valuable. Over time, criticism can become more natural than appreciation.

That’s why Paul’s description of love in 1 Corinthians is so powerful.

Love isn’t merely a feeling that appears when circumstances are favorable. Love is a choice that demonstrates itself through patience, kindness, humility, and grace. These qualities become especially important within marriage because marriage gives us a front-row seat to one another’s imperfections.

The beautiful thing is that God never asks us to love from our own strength alone. He continually pours His love into our hearts and invites us to extend that same grace to others.

I’ve found that one of the most worshipful things we can do is love people the way God loves us. When we choose patience instead of irritation, forgiveness instead of resentment, and encouragement instead of criticism, we reflect His character.

That doesn’t mean we ignore problems or pretend everything is perfect. It simply means we choose to approach one another through the lens of grace.

As you pray over your marriage this week, ask God to help you see your spouse through His eyes. You may be surprised by how much that changes your perspective.
