Namutumba Mixed Secondary School serves as a cornerstone for education in the Namutumba District, Eastern Uganda. This area faces significant economic challenges, where many parents struggle to afford school fees or find schools that provide quality education for their children with limited resources. Namutumba Mixed Secondary School works closely with parents, often prioritizing the needs of the children over the payment of fees, ensuring that education remains accessible to all.
Despite its role in shaping young minds, the school faced significant challenges in providing adequate sanitation facilities. This project aimed to address this critical issue by constructing gender-separated latrines and a privacy wall to improve hygiene and privacy for students, ultimately contributing to their well-being and academic performance.
THE NEED
The school’s original latrines were dangerously deteriorated, unsanitary, and offered no privacy. This created health hazards and even led some students to avoid school, especially during the rainy season or for female students during menstruation.
OUR RESPONSE
The new facilities have brought dignity and relief to the students and staff. Students now have a safe and clean place to go, and the school community is thriving with renewed confidence. This act of love has opened the door for future partnerships with other schools in the region.
Through generous giving and the leadership of our Praying Wife team, we funded the construction of two brand-new gender-separated latrines—complete with doors, handwashing stations, and showers. The project also included the donation of school supplies and sports uniforms for both the girls’ and boys’ teams.
