Key Scripture
Matthew 5:37 (KJV)
But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.
Devotional
A promise can feel small when we make it and much heavier when it is time to follow through. We meant to call, return the item, finish the task, or arrive on time, but another responsibility came along.
Jesus teaches His followers to speak truthfully, allowing their yes and no to be dependable. Honest speech helps build trust because people can take our words seriously.
Faithful stewardship includes the commitments we place in other people’s hands. When we agree to something, they may arrange their own time and responsibilities around the expectation that we will do what we said.
Sister, if you cannot keep a commitment, communicate as early and honestly as possible. Sometimes circumstances change, and a responsible response includes an apology, a revised plan, or help finding another solution.
Consider whether you need to make fewer promises so you can honor them more carefully. Ask God to help you speak with wisdom, remember what you have agreed to, and rebuild trust where your follow-through has been inconsistent.

Who is waiting for me to follow through on something I said I would do?

Prayer
Father, make my words dependable. Help me speak honestly about my capacity and follow through with care. Give me humility to repair what I have neglected and wisdom to make commitments I can faithfully honor. In Jesus’ name, amen.
