Key Scripture
Colossians 3:15
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts.
Devotional
We often pray for peace when making decisions, and Scripture does teach us to let the peace of Christ rule in our hearts. But biblical peace does not always mean the absence of nervousness. You can feel butterflies and still be obeying God. You can grieve a decision and still know it is right. Peace is deeper than emotional comfort.
Sometimes following the Holy Spirit leads into difficult conversations, unfamiliar assignments, or costly obedience. Jesus had perfect fellowship with the Father, yet obedience led Him toward the cross. So we should be careful not to assume that the easiest option is automatically the peaceful one.
God’s peace often shows up as settled confidence beneath the discomfort. You may not enjoy the step, but you sense that it is faithful. You may still have questions, but your heart is no longer fighting God. That kind of peace is different from relief that comes from avoiding something hard.
Ask the Spirit today to distinguish between peace and escape. He may be leading you into a brave yes or a brave no. Either way, peace follows surrender.
Peace does not always remove the challenge, but it can steady you within it. Ask God for courage to obey rather than merely an escape from discomfort.
Heart Check
Is there an area where you may be calling avoidance “peace” because obedience feels uncomfortable?
Practice Today
- Name one decision where comfort and obedience may be competing.
- Pray for settled confidence rather than merely an easy outcome.
- Choose the response that best aligns with Scripture and faithful obedience.
Prayer
Holy Spirit, teach me the difference between Your peace and my desire for comfort. Give me courage to obey even when obedience feels difficult. Let Christ’s peace rule my heart. Amen.
