Scripture
“Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.” – James 2:17
Devotional
Surrender is one of the clearest ways our faith becomes visible. We can say we trust God, but surrender asks the deeper question: do we trust Him enough to release what we keep trying to control?
Many of us are carrying things God never asked us to carry. We are carrying outcomes, timelines, people’s choices, fears about the future, and pressure to make everything work. We pray, but then we pick the burden right back up. We say we trust God, but we keep mentally rehearsing how we are going to fix it all.
Sister, surrender does not mean you stop caring. It means you stop pretending you are God. It means you place what matters to you into the hands of the One who loves you, sees you, and knows what is best.
Surrender can be hard because it feels like loss of control. But control is not the same thing as peace. Sometimes the thing we are calling control is really fear wearing a responsible outfit. We think if we worry enough, plan enough, push enough, or monitor enough, we can prevent pain. But only God can hold what we are not strong enough to carry.
Faith that surrenders says, “Lord, I trust Your way more than mine.” It does not always feel easy, but it is holy. It is freeing. It makes room for God to work in us and through us.
Today, ask yourself what you have been holding tightly. Is it your spouse? Your children? Your future? Your reputation? Your plan? Your need to be understood? Bring it to God honestly. Open your hands before Him.
Surrender is not weakness. It is faith in action.
Prayer
Father, I surrender what I have been trying to control. Help me trust You with the people, outcomes, and concerns that are heavy on my heart. Teach me to release what belongs in Your hands. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Reflection
What have you been holding tightly that God is asking you to surrender?
