Let Truth Answer the Temptation

Key Scripture

Matthew 4:4 (KJV)

But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Devotional

Temptation often arrives with a convincing explanation. It tells us that one compromise will not matter, that our feelings justify our response, or that we deserve something we know is leading us away from God.

When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, He answered with Scripture. He remained faithful to the Father rather than allowing the tempter to define what He needed or how He should respond.

God’s Word helps us recognize when an appealing suggestion contradicts His character and commands. We need to understand Scripture in its context so that the truth we remember can guide the choices we make.

Sister, consider the explanation you use when you want to excuse a wrong choice. Ask what the Bible actually teaches about that situation. A familiar verse becomes especially meaningful when you allow it to challenge your reasoning and direct your behavior.

During International Prayer Week today, pray for a heart that receives correction from Scripture. Choose one passage connected to an area where you struggle, read it carefully, and prepare to act on it when the familiar invitation to compromise returns.

Heart Check

What excuse have I been allowing to speak louder than the truth of Scripture?

Practice Today

  1. Name one excuse that has supported a wrong choice.
  2. Read a relevant Bible passage in its surrounding context.
  3. Write one obedient response you can practice today.

Prayer

Lord, help me know Your Word and submit to what it teaches. Expose the excuses that have made compromise seem reasonable. Give me a willing heart to receive Your truth and the strength to live by it. In Jesus’ name, amen.
