Give Your Heart a Better Direction

Key Scripture

2 Timothy 2:22 (KJV)

Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

Devotional

Sometimes we focus so much on what we need to stop doing that we give little thought to what should take its place. An empty space can quickly fill with the same habits if we never give our attention a better direction.

Paul tells Timothy to flee sinful desires and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace. He also connects that pursuit with other people who call on the Lord sincerely.

Obedience involves turning away from what is harmful and moving toward what helps us grow. That might mean replacing an unhealthy conversation with honest encouragement or exchanging a habit of secrecy for a relationship that supports accountability.

Sister, consider what you are feeding through your attention. The things you repeatedly watch, rehearse, and participate in can influence your desires. Choose habits and relationships that help you love God and treat people well.

As we continue International Prayer Week, ask God to guide both your departures and your pursuits. Let prayer lead you toward practical changes that make room for a more faithful way of living, surrounded by people who will encourage your obedience.

Prayer

Father, help me turn from what draws me away from You and pursue what reflects Your character. Guide my attention, habits, and relationships. Surround me with sincere believers who will encourage me to walk in truth and love. In Jesus’ name, amen.
