Key Scripture: Hebrews 12:28 (NIV)
Let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe.
Devotional
We live in a culture that often treats everything casually.
While God certainly invites us into a close and personal relationship with Him, Scripture also reminds us that He is holy, sovereign, and worthy of our deepest reverence.
Reverence is not fear in the sense of being afraid of God. It is a profound respect and awe that comes from recognizing who He is.
When Isaiah encountered God’s presence, he was overwhelmed by God’s holiness.
When John saw the glorified Christ in Revelation, he fell at His feet.
When Moses stood before the burning bush, God instructed him to remove his sandals because he was standing on holy ground.
These moments remind us that worship is not simply about receiving from God. It is also about honoring Him.
Sometimes our prayers become rushed. Our worship becomes routine. Our quiet times become items on a checklist. Without realizing it, we can lose our sense of wonder.
But worship invites us to pause.
To slow down.
To remember that we are approaching the Creator of heaven and earth.
The God who formed galaxies also knows your name.
The God who holds the universe together also hears your prayers.
The God who reigns over all creation also calls you His daughter.
That reality should fill our hearts with gratitude and awe.
Reverence does not create distance between us and God. It deepens our appreciation for the incredible privilege of knowing Him.
The more we understand His greatness, the more naturally worship flows from our hearts.
