Key Scripture: 2 Chronicles 20:21 (NIV)
Give thanks to the Lord, for his love endures forever.
Devotional
There are certain situations in life that make us feel completely outmatched.
Maybe it’s a diagnosis you weren’t expecting. A financial burden that keeps growing. A prodigal child. A strained marriage. A situation that seems far bigger than your ability to fix.
Most of us have experienced moments where we’ve looked at a circumstance and honestly wondered, “Lord, what am I supposed to do with this?”
King Jehoshaphat found himself in that exact position. News arrived that a vast army was marching toward Judah. The people were outnumbered, overwhelmed, and completely incapable of winning the battle on their own.
What I find fascinating is that God didn’t begin by giving them a military strategy. He didn’t tell them how many soldiers to send or what weapons to use. Instead, He reminded them that the battle belonged to Him.
Then something unusual happened.
The worshippers were placed at the front.
Can you imagine how strange that must have felt? The enemy was approaching, and instead of sending the strongest warriors ahead, they sent people whose assignment was simply to praise God.
From a human perspective, it made very little sense.
Yet perhaps that’s because God wanted His people to understand something important. Victory was never going to come from their strength. It was going to come from His presence.
I think many of us approach our battles the same way. We immediately start trying to solve everything ourselves. We analyze, strategize, stress, worry, and exhaust ourselves looking for answers. While there is certainly wisdom in taking practical steps, sometimes we forget the most important thing we can do is turn our attention back to God.
Worship doesn’t make the battle disappear overnight. But it reminds us who is fighting alongside us.
It reminds us that our circumstances are not bigger than our Savior.
It reminds us that God has carried us through difficult seasons before and He will be faithful again.
The next time you find yourself facing a battle that feels overwhelming, don’t wait until the victory comes to worship. Worship in the middle of it. Worship while you’re waiting. Worship while you’re trusting. Worship while you’re believing.
You may discover that God’s presence gives you exactly the strength you need for the journey ahead.
