God Is Still Worthy

Key Scripture: Habakkuk 3:17-18 (NIV)

Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines… yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior.

Devotional

Have you ever noticed how easy it is to worship when everything seems to be going well?

When prayers are being answered, doors are opening, and life feels relatively smooth, gratitude comes naturally. We don’t have to remind ourselves to thank God because His blessings feel obvious. We see His hand moving, and our hearts respond accordingly.

The challenge comes when we find ourselves in a season where things aren’t unfolding the way we hoped.

Maybe you’ve been praying about something for months and haven’t seen any movement. Maybe a situation that seemed promising suddenly fell apart. Maybe you’re carrying a burden that nobody else knows about, and some days it feels like you’re holding it alone.

Those are the moments when worship becomes more than a response to blessings. It becomes a declaration of faith.

I think that’s why I love the book of Habakkuk so much. When we read his words, we aren’t reading the reflections of someone sitting comfortably after receiving everything he wanted. He was looking at uncertainty. He was facing circumstances that would have discouraged most people. Yet somehow, in the middle of all of it, he made a decision that continues to challenge believers thousands of years later.

He chose to rejoice in God.

Not because life was easy.

Not because everything made sense.

Not because the outcome had improved.

He worshipped because God’s worthiness had not changed.

That thought has stayed with me over the years. God’s goodness is not determined by whether I get the answer I’m hoping for. His faithfulness is not dependent on whether my timeline matches His. His character remains constant, even when my circumstances are anything but.

There have been seasons in my own life when worship looked less like celebration and more like trust. Seasons when I had to remind myself that God was still good even though I couldn’t see what He was doing. Looking back now, I can see that those were some of the moments when my faith grew the most.

Anyone can worship when the blessing is visible.

But there is something deeply beautiful about worship that rises from a heart that says, “Lord, I still trust You. I still love You. And You are still worthy.”

Heart Check

Has a difficult circumstance affected the way you’ve been viewing God’s goodness lately?

Practice Today

  • Read Habakkuk 3:17-19 slowly.
  • Thank God for who He is, not just for what He does.
  • Spend a few moments remembering ways He has been faithful in previous seasons.

Prayer

Father, thank You that Your worthiness never changes. Help me keep my eyes on Your character when circumstances feel uncertain. Teach me to worship You not only for Your blessings but because You alone are worthy. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
