Scripture
“Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.” – Luke 5:5
Devotional
One of the hardest parts of faith is obeying before we understand. We want understanding first. We want God to explain the why, the when, the how, and the what if. But there are moments when God asks for obedience before explanation.
Peter did not understand how lowering the net again would change anything. He had already worked all night. The facts said it was not worth it. His experience said the timing was wrong. His fatigue probably said, “Go home.” But Jesus said, “Launch out.” Peter obeyed the Word over his weariness.
Sister, obedience before understanding is not blind foolishness. It is trust in the voice of God. It is saying, “Lord, You know what I do not know. You see what I cannot see. Your wisdom is higher than mine.”
This kind of obedience might look like continuing to pray when nothing looks different. It might look like choosing gentleness when your flesh wants to be sharp. It might look like stepping into a ministry assignment when you feel unqualified. It might look like forgiving before the feelings fully catch up. It might look like waiting when everything in you wants to force a door open.
God does not ask for obedience to punish us. He asks for obedience because He is leading us into life, alignment, growth, and sometimes breakthrough we could not reach on our own terms.
If you are waiting to understand everything before you obey anything, you may be stuck for a long time. But if God has spoken clearly through His Word, through conviction, through wise counsel, and through the leading of the Holy Spirit, then the next step is trust.
Today, do not despise the simple instruction. Faithful obedience in small places often prepares us for greater things.
Prayer
Father, help me obey You even when I do not understand everything. Give me discernment, wisdom, and courage. Teach me to trust Your voice over my fear and Your Word over my need for full explanations. In Jesus’ name, amen.

What instruction from God have you been waiting to understand before obeying?
