Devotional
First Corinthians 12 teaches about spiritual gifts, but Paul does not stop there. He moves directly into a chapter about love. That placement matters. Gifts without love become noise. Knowledge without love becomes pride. Faith without love can become performance.
The Holy Spirit does not empower us to become impressive but unkind. If our spirituality makes us harsh, superior, impatient, or dismissive of others, something is out of alignment. The same Spirit who gives gifts also produces love as His fruit.
This is especially important when we believe God is using us to speak into someone’s life. Truth should not become permission for arrogance. Correction should not become humiliation. Discernment should not become suspicion. Boldness should not become rudeness.
Before asking God to increase your influence, ask Him to increase your love. Love makes room for people to grow. Love tells truth without enjoying the wound. Love remembers that every gift is grace.
Whatever gift you carry, let love determine how you use it. The goal is not to prove that you are spiritual; it is to strengthen people and glorify Christ.

Does the way you use your gifts make people feel loved and strengthened, or mainly corrected and impressed?
Practice Today
- Before giving advice today, ask whether love is motivating you.
- Encourage someone without adding correction or instruction.
- Read 1 Corinthians 13 slowly and replace “love” with your own name as a heart check.
Prayer
Holy Spirit, let love govern every gift You have given me. Remove pride, harshness, and the need to prove myself. Teach me to serve people with truth and tenderness. In Jesus’ name, amen.
