Devotional
Acts 4 gives us a striking picture of believers facing opposition. They did not pray primarily for easier circumstances. They prayed for boldness, and after they prayed, they were filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the Word of God boldly.
That challenges the way we sometimes pray. We often ask God to remove whatever makes us uncomfortable. Sometimes He does. Other times, He strengthens us within the difficulty. The Spirit can give courage that does not depend on the environment becoming safe.
Boldness is not recklessness. It is faithful confidence rooted in God. It may look like speaking truth graciously, refusing compromise, sharing your testimony, praying publicly when appropriate, or standing with someone who is being mistreated.
If fear has been shrinking your obedience, do not simply tell yourself to become braver. Pray. Ask the Holy Spirit to fill you with courage for the actual situation in front of you.
You may still feel nervous and be Spirit-empowered at the same time. Boldness is not the absence of fear; it is obedience that refuses to let fear have the final word.

- Pray Acts 4:31 over one situation where you need courage.
- Take one respectful, obedient step you have been avoiding because of fear.
- Ask another believer to pray with you for boldness.
Prayer
Holy Spirit, fill me with boldness that is rooted in love and truth. Strengthen me where fear has made me silent or passive. Help me represent Jesus courageously and wisely. Amen.
