Key Scripture
Galatians 5:16
Walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
Devotional
Following the Holy Spirit is not a once-a-month spiritual exercise. Paul says, “Walk by the Spirit.” Walking is continuous, ordinary, and step-by-step. Most of our spiritual lives are formed not by one dramatic decision but by hundreds of small choices.
We walk by the Spirit when we choose patience instead of irritation, truth instead of exaggeration, generosity instead of selfishness, forgiveness instead of revenge, and obedience instead of convenience. These decisions may not feel supernatural, but they require the Spirit’s power.
The flesh usually wants what is immediate. The Spirit leads us toward what is holy. That tension is normal. Feeling temptation does not mean you are failing; yielding to the Spirit in the middle of that tension is part of spiritual growth.
Do not wait for a dramatic prompting today. Ask the Holy Spirit to lead your next conversation, next reaction, next decision, and next hour. Walking with Him happens one step at a time.
Walking by the Spirit happens in the next choice. Do not wait for a dramatic moment to practice surrender; begin with the response in front of you.
Heart Check
What ordinary area of your life most needs to come under the Holy Spirit’s leadership?
Practice Today
- Choose one recurring situation where you will intentionally pause before reacting.
- Ask, “What response would reflect the Spirit here?”
- At bedtime, review where you followed His leading and where you resisted.
Prayer
Holy Spirit, teach me to walk with You in ordinary moments. Lead my thoughts, reactions, words, and choices. Give me grace to choose what pleases God one step at a time. Amen.
