Devotional
Acts 16 describes Paul and his companions being prevented by the Holy Spirit from preaching in certain regions. Their desire was good. Their mission was biblical. Yet the Spirit still said no to that route at that time.
This is important because not every closed door means you failed, lacked faith, or heard God incorrectly. Sometimes God redirects good people away from good opportunities because He has a different assignment. A closed door can be guidance.
We often struggle more with God’s no than His yes because no interrupts our plans. We may have already imagined how something would work. We may have told people. We may have invested time. Surrender means allowing God to change direction without assuming His redirection is rejection.
If something has closed unexpectedly, ask whether you have been grieving the door more than trusting the Guide. The Holy Spirit knows where your obedience will bear the right fruit.
A closed door can still be guidance. Trust that the Holy Spirit is able to redirect you without wasting the desire, effort, or obedience you already offered.
Heart Check
Is there a closed door you are still trying to force open because you have not accepted that God may be redirecting you?
Practice Today
- Name one closed door and thank God that He can guide through limitations.
- Stop one unnecessary effort to force an outcome you cannot control.
- Ask, “Lord, if not this, what are You redirecting me toward?”
Prayer
Holy Spirit, help me trust Your no as much as Your yes. When plans change, keep me from panic and resentment. Redirect me wherever You desire and give me grace to follow. Amen.
