Care for the People in Your Hands

Key Scripture

Philippians 2:4 (KJV)

Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.

Devotional

When we think about resources, we often picture money, time, or skills. Yet our relationships also carry responsibilities. God has given us opportunities to love, encourage, and care for real people.

Paul urges believers to consider the interests of others. In a passage calling the church toward humility, he points them to the attitude of Christ, whose love was expressed through self-giving service.

We can become so focused on accomplishing things for our family or ministry that we overlook how the people involved are doing. A completed task cannot tell us whether someone feels heard, respected, or supported.

Sister, think about the people closest to you. Your husband, children, friends, or someone you mentor may need your attention in a way that cannot be handled by another purchase or another item checked off a list.

Faithful care begins with listening and a willingness to respond. You cannot meet every need, but you can ask thoughtful questions, offer support within your capacity, and help someone find appropriate support when her needs extend beyond what you can provide.

Heart Check

Have I been managing responsibilities around people without paying attention to the people themselves?

Practice Today

  1. Ask someone close to you how she or he is really doing.
  2. Listen without preparing your response or reaching for your phone.
  3. Follow through on one practical way to show care.

Prayer

Father, help me care well for the people in my life. Give me humility to listen, compassion to respond, and wisdom about the help I can offer. Let my relationships reflect the patient love of Christ. In Jesus’ name, amen.
