Key Scripture
Ecclesiastes 3:1 (KJV)
To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.
Devotional
Many women know how to say yes quickly. We see a need, want to help, and agree before considering what that commitment will require from the responsibilities already in our hands.
Ecclesiastes reminds us that life has seasons. Recognizing our present season helps us make decisions with wisdom rather than assuming that every good opportunity belongs on our calendar right now.
Perhaps you are caring for young children, supporting a loved one, adjusting to a new job, or recovering from exhaustion. Those realities deserve consideration when you decide what you can faithfully take on.
A loving no can protect a commitment you have already made. It does not need to be harsh or filled with excuses. You can appreciate an invitation, speak honestly about your capacity, and trust God to provide help through someone else.
Before your next yes, pause and pray. Ask whether the opportunity fits your responsibilities and whether you can follow through well. Sister, wisdom includes recognizing your limits and honoring the people who would carry the cost of an overcrowded schedule.
Heart Check
Am I agreeing to things because I feel called to them or because I feel guilty declining?
Practice Today
- Review one commitment that is stretching your capacity.
- Practice a gracious response to an invitation you cannot accept.
- Protect time for one responsibility God has already entrusted to you.
Prayer
Father, give me wisdom for this season of my life. Help me say yes with sincerity and no with kindness when needed. Free me from the pressure to please everyone, and teach me to honor the commitments already in my care. In Jesus’ name, amen.
