Key Scripture: Matthew 5:16 (NIV)
Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
Devotional
Most of us can think of someone whose faith has impacted our lives.
Maybe it was a parent, a grandparent, a pastor, a friend, or someone from church. Perhaps they never stood on a stage or wrote a book, but there was something about the way they lived that pointed people toward God.
Their faith felt genuine.
Their love felt authentic.
Their trust in God remained steady even during difficult seasons.
And because of that, their life became an encouragement to others.
I think we sometimes underestimate the influence we have on the people around us.
We assume our daily choices go unnoticed. We don’t realize that our children are watching how we respond to challenges. Our friends are observing how we handle disappointment. Our coworkers notice whether our faith remains consistent when life becomes difficult.
People may not always listen to what we say, but they often pay attention to how we live.
That’s one reason a lifestyle of worship is so powerful.
When we worship God through the way we live, we become living testimonies of His goodness. Our peace during a storm may encourage someone who is struggling. Our kindness may point someone toward Christ. Our perseverance may inspire another believer to keep trusting God.
The goal isn’t to draw attention to ourselves.
In fact, true worship does the opposite.
It points people toward Him.
Jesus described believers as lights in a dark world. The purpose of a light is not to draw attention to itself but to illuminate what is around it.
The same is true for us.
As we worship God through our words, actions, attitudes, and choices, people begin seeing glimpses of His character through our lives.
We may never fully know how our faith impacts others this side of heaven.
But God does.
And He can use even the smallest acts of faithfulness to encourage someone else.
