Faith Comes by Hearing

Scripture

“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” – Romans 10:17

Devotional

If faith comes by hearing the Word of God, then we have to be honest about what we have been hearing the most. What has been speaking into your heart lately? God’s Word, or your worries? Scripture, or fear? Truth, or every possible worst case scenario?

Faith grows when we consistently put ourselves in position to hear from God. Not once in a while. Not only when we are desperate. Not only when we need an answer right away. Faith grows as we make space for the Word, as we listen, read, meditate, worship, and remind ourselves of who God is.

The same is true in the opposite direction. Fear can grow by hearing too. If we keep rehearsing the problem, replaying the offense, listening to discouragement, and feeding our minds with panic, fear will feel louder than faith. That does not mean we ignore reality. It means we choose not to let fear disciple us.

Sister, your faith needs nourishment. Just like your body needs food, your spirit needs the Word. If your faith feels weak, do not condemn yourself. Feed it. Open your Bible. Play Scripture. Speak God’s promises over your home. Pray out loud. Join with sisters who will point you back to truth.

This matters in marriage, in motherhood, in ministry, in work, and in every hidden place of the heart. We cannot pour out what we are not receiving. We cannot keep standing if we are not being strengthened.

Today, ask yourself what you are allowing to shape your hearing. Then make one intentional choice to hear God’s Word again. Faith does not grow by accident. It grows as we keep listening to the voice of God.

Prayer

Father, help me hear Your Word above every other voice. Show me what has been feeding my fear and teach me to feed my faith instead. Give me hunger for Scripture and help Your truth take root in my heart. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Reflection

What is one practical way you can feed your faith with God’s Word today?
