Key Scripture
1 Corinthians 6:19
Your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God.
Devotional
Scripture says that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. For the early believers, that language would have carried tremendous weight. The temple was associated with the dwelling presence of God. Now Paul tells believers that God’s Spirit dwells within them. That means your ordinary life has become sacred space.
This truth should not produce fear as though we must walk nervously all day, but it should produce awareness. The conversations we participate in, the habits we nurture, the way we treat our bodies, the content we consume, and the way we treat other people all matter because the Spirit of God lives in us.
It also means you do not need to wait until church to encounter God. He is with you while you make breakfast, drive to work, fold laundry, answer emails, care for children, or sit alone in a difficult season. There is no division between the spiritual part of your life and the rest of your life. His presence goes with you.
Carry that awareness today. You are not trying to invite God into an otherwise godless day. You are learning to recognize the God who already dwells within you.
Carry His presence into the ordinary parts of today. There is no part of your life too small for the Holy Spirit to inhabit and transform.
Heart Check
How would your ordinary routines change if you stayed conscious of the Holy Spirit’s presence throughout the day?
Practice Today
- Choose one routine activity and intentionally practice awareness of God’s presence while doing it.
- Remove one thing today that regularly dulls your spiritual sensitivity.
- Thank God aloud that His Spirit lives within you.
Prayer
Father, thank You that Your Spirit dwells in me. Help me honor Your presence with my body, choices, words, and habits. Make every part of my life surrendered ground. In Jesus’ name, amen.
