Keep in Step

Key Scripture

Galatians 5:25

Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.

Devotional

Paul writes, “Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.” The image is relational and rhythmic. Keeping in step means we do not rush ahead or drag behind. We learn His pace.

Some seasons require movement; others require patience. We can become frustrated when God’s pace does not match ours. Yet rushing ahead creates unnecessary strain, while refusing to move when He says go creates stagnation.

Keeping in step also means returning when we get out of rhythm. Maybe you have been distracted, spiritually dry, or disobedient. The answer is not shame. Come back. Confess what needs confessing and take the next step.

The Spirit is not asking you to perform flawless spirituality. He is inviting you into ongoing fellowship. Keep returning to His pace, His truth, and His leading.

If you have fallen out of step, return without shame. The Holy Spirit is still inviting you into close, daily fellowship.

Heart Check

Are you currently rushing ahead of God, lagging behind in obedience, or walking closely with His pace?

Practice Today

  1. Identify whether your current struggle is hurry or hesitation.
  2. Adjust one decision to better reflect God’s pace.
  3. End the day with a five-minute examen: Where did I sense the Spirit’s leading today?

Prayer

Holy Spirit, teach me Your pace. Keep me from rushing ahead in fear or falling behind in disobedience. When I lose step, draw me back quickly. I want to walk closely with You. Amen.
