Rest Is Part of Faithfulness

Key Scripture

Mark 6:31 (KJV)

Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while.

Devotional

It can be difficult to rest when you know how much remains unfinished. Even when you sit down, your mind may keep listing the dishes, messages, work, and needs waiting for your attention.

When the apostles returned from ministry, Jesus invited them to come away and rest. Mark tells us that so many people were coming and going that they did not even have time to eat.

Their needs mattered to Jesus. He understood that serving others did not remove their need for nourishment, quiet, and renewal. We can receive that same reminder when we have been treating exhaustion as something to ignore.

Sister, wise use of your time includes caring for the body and mind through which you serve. Sleep, a meal without rushing, and a peaceful break can help you return to your responsibilities with greater patience and attention.

Rest also asks us to trust God with what we cannot finish today. Bring your unfinished list before Him, make a responsible plan for what comes next, and allow yourself to stop without measuring your worth by your productivity.

Heart Check

What belief makes it difficult for me to rest without feeling guilty?

Practice Today

  1. Notice one sign that you need rest or nourishment.
  2. Schedule a realistic period of rest today.
  3. Leave one nonurgent task for another appropriate time.

Prayer

Lord, thank You for caring about my needs as I care for others. Help me receive rest with gratitude and trust You with unfinished work. Renew my strength and teach me rhythms that support faithful, loving service. In Jesus’ name, amen.
