Begin With What Matters

Key Scripture

Matthew 6:33 (KJV)

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Devotional

Some mornings, our minds begin working before our feet touch the floor. We are already thinking about lunches, meetings, messages, errands, and everything that did not get finished yesterday.

Jesus tells us to seek first God’s Kingdom and His righteousness. In a passage addressing worry about daily needs, He directs our attention toward the Father who knows what we need and calls us to trust Him.

Seeking God first shapes more than the first few minutes of our morning. It means allowing His priorities to influence our decisions throughout the day, including how we work, speak, spend, and respond to people.

You might begin with a prayer before reaching for your phone, then return to that dependence when a difficult conversation interrupts your plans. Time with God helps us approach our responsibilities with a heart that remembers who is leading us.

Sister, a rushed morning does not mean you have missed your opportunity to seek Him. Pause wherever you are and invite the Lord into the choices still before you. There is room to turn your attention toward Him now.

Heart Check

What usually receives my attention before I have considered God’s priorities?

Practice Today

  1. Pause for prayer before your next task.
  2. Identify one decision that needs to reflect God’s righteousness.
  3. Choose a simple daily rhythm for reading Scripture.

Prayer

Father, help me seek Your Kingdom in the middle of my everyday responsibilities. Draw my attention back to You when worry takes over. Let my choices reflect Your truth, and teach me to trust Your care for my needs. In Jesus’ name, amen.
